Holy Crap

Well in lab on Wednesday, our class did not get to watch the Milo project so I decided to check it out on my own. I cannot believe the Project Natal Milo. The fact that they can make a computer game character so realistic is beyond my belief. I found it amazing that Milo was able to sense the tones in her voice as well as have a serious conversation with her. Also, I really think the realistic ability of the character and game itself are just insane. The fact that she could see her reflection in the water and then make it seem like she was playing in the water by adding in the ripples was just crazy. As well as her drawing the fish and then putting it up to the sensor and him looking like she had given him the paper and he could tell what it looked like as well as the colors she used, was just crazy. Things are becoming so much more realistic that in time I feel like we will have a very hard time deciphering what it real and what has been man made. While I feel this is a big step in scientific terms I do think this could have some drawbacks as well. People seclude themselves now because they are just playing their games by themselves. I think something like this could really make people have a false sense of connection with a game and could cause people to become more antisocial. While this project has its own scientific merits, I feel that it will cause us to once again rely more on technology as a way to socialize rather than just going out and meeting friends in real life. I think we need to be careful with this kind of idea and technology. Eventually we could do nothing but socialize by technology and I feel that we should relax a little bit on ideas like that. We still need to make sure we can leave our house to communicate and see others instead of just secluding ourselves.

The Wonderful, Exciting, and Amazing Internet

So, after some thought and consideration, I have decided that youtube.com is an amazing web site. Not only does it have amazingly funny videos that will keep me entertained for hours, distract me from homework, and cheer me up on a depressing day, it can also help me with my homework. There is a video for pretty much everything you can think of. For example, in my Com 412 class, I was able to add a video from Seinfeld to help emphasize a point I was trying to make about close talkers. Here is the link so you can now enjoy it as well, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlRjftIWEMA . For another class, I actually had to do a presentation on pornography and gender roles, now where do you think I found a class friendly visual aid? Well of course I looked on the internet and found a very educational based site that had tons of information and visuals that were professor approved. When in the far back past have we ever been able to do things like this? Never, that's when. The age of the internet has changed the way we socialize, do homework, and even pass the time. I for one, can say that I am extact that I do not have to drive 15 minutes to a parking garage to walk 5 more minutes to the library everyday just to find information that can now be pulled up in five minutes on the internet from my own bed while wearing pajamas and eating some ice cream. I applaud you internet and the ease you have added to my normally stressful life. Thank you.

Facebook Hackers

Well, it seems Facebook is having more issues like it always does. Multiple of my friends and friends of their friends are saying that when they try to log into their facebook from their phones they will be logged on to someone else's account other than their own. A friend of mine showed me this. He typed in all of his information and then was logged onto Kiki's facebook. He could check her messages as well as mess with all of her things. He did not of course, but if he wanted to he could have really done some damage. After he logged out of her page, her email was then left and the remember me button was hit. This really freaks me out. The security of these sites was normally pretty high and now I have to worry about people with IPhones randomly getting onto my page and messing things up. One of my other friends had someone hack into his page and they were talking to people through his page acting like him. They need to work on whatever bug that is and fix it because there will be a lot of unhappy people and a lot of problems that will arise from this. Facebook needs to get working.

Com 435- Oct 5

The other day in class we had a guest speaker come in and talk to us about geocaching. I had never heard of this before and I found it to be pretty interesting. While I feel that it is like a big kind of scavenger hunt I do feel that becoming more in touch with things like a gps can be very helpful. There are many times before gps's came out where I would find myself lost and without a way to figure out where I was. This became especially problematic when my cell phone had no service. I feel the activity we will do on Wednesday where we have to use the gps and other forms of technology to communicate with each other and find the things we should will really be helpful. Everyone should know how to use these things, they make life so much easier.
